. . .The REAL book number totals. . .
So. . . I am a little bit of a super freak and I went back to the bookstore again. . . Count that, that would be a total of five trips to the bookstore (AT LEAST nine hours). However, I only spent $65 and got . . . . .wait for. . . . over 600 books!!! That is almost 10 cents a book!
Day 8 #72
Today's thing was "every kid should have a get better box." Let me just tell you that this couldn't have fallen on a better day because I am sick! Ok, but enough about me and on to the good stuff! In the book they gave suggestions of things that we could put in our box some we followed and some we branched out on. We hit up the dollar store (don't worry Shari this one isn't going to break the bank) and found some sweet stuff to help us feel better on a crumby day.
This is my awesome pile of sick day fun. I got the movie "Sixteen Candles", one of my most favoritest childhood books "Mrs. Piggle Wiggle", a nursery rhymes book, sudoku book, a deck of cards (they are some pretty sweet Elvis ones!) a whiteboard and marker, Sour Patch Kids (my favorite treat), and a pair of socks. We also both got getter better cards that we are going to write for each other and not open until we need a pick me up.
Shan's sweet pile consists of a lot of the same. It has a deck of cards, a white board and marker, sudoku book, the same pair of socks, Juji Fruits (her favorite candy) and a card. Her books were "Life According to Mr. Rodgers" and a fairy tale book, and she got "The Pursuit of Happyness" for her movie.
So nice little side note about the socks. Note that they don't match each other but instead we have one of each. This is because on sick days who better to think of then your best friend! By wearing each others sock we will be thinking of each other. The absolute best part. . . .I am a HUGE fan of wearing mismatched socks and Shan's OCD side tells her that it is all wrong so she is making a big sacrifice to remember her friend on a sick day!
Our cute little bags all buddled up ready for a sick day!

Day 5, 6, 7 #6, #26, #75
If you are freaking out because we have missed the last few days. . .calm down we have been busy. We combined the last three days all into one big project for Kel's class' science unit. Day 5's thing was "every kid should play with play dough". Day 6's thing was "every kid should experiment with simple science projects"; and today's thing is "every kid should build a model." So as I have mentioned we combined these all into one for Kel's class. In her science unit they are learning about landforms, erosion, weather, etc. ending with an exploding volcano. So we built landforms and a volcano out of play dough for our play with play dough. We did a simple science project by testing for the volcano explosion (combining diet coke and mentos works best), and finally we build a model by arranging all of the landforms into a model to show her students as an example. Needless to say we used all of our flour stash and had a lot of fun!!!!!
Our landforms (unpainted): Mountains, Cliffs, Butte, Arch, Lake, Volcano, Canyon, Plateau.
Our awesome volcano!!!!!!!
The explosion (notice my sweet picture taking skills, got this shot perfectly).
Kelli putting the mentos in for the explosion!!!

Day 4 #30
Today's thing was "every kid should blow a bubble gum bubble until it pops." This was one that we had put on the seemingly easy list but boy howdy were we wrong! Have you ever tried to chew two and one half pieces of Hubba Bubba Gum at the same time and then blow a bubble out of it. We were at the 7-11 for almost 30 minutes trying to get some massive bubbles going! The lady at the store thought we were hilarious as we sat there trying our hardest to blow a bubble. Not only were we clumsily trying to get a bubble we were discussing strategy. Some good tips that we came up with was to make sure that the gum was evenly distributed amongst our tounge, but that the thickness of the wad was at the front so that when we blew the gum had more room to expand. It was also important that you take a big deep breath in, so that you would have more air to blow out. As you can see from the pictures we weren't necessarily successful on the massive part, but we definitely got them to POP!

Me pouting that I can't get a very big bubble.

Book Number Totals
So we said we would let you know how many books we got and the final count is in. We had a little over 500! My part in that collection is 40 which means Kel has about 460 books, most of which are children books. She has them all packed up in four big plastic tubs in our kitchen. Oh and if you are wondering what those things are on top of our boxes, they are our two treasures from the first two days. One is a pebble from Ace's bowl and the other is a small book with our first name initial on it from our book collection.

Day 3 #50
Today's thing is "every kid should have a treasure box." We decided that this would be a simpler one, I mean how hard is it to create a treasure box? However, the question was what to put in the treasure box? That was quickly remedied when we decided that we would definitely be treasuring the memories of these 101 days for a lifetime. Everyday we are going to keep a treasure from our adventures and label it and then put it in our newly made box.

Day 2 #38
Today’s thing was “every kid should have a collection.” As you know we got the idea for this blog, and “Last Semester”, from a book, so it only seemed fitting that we get a book collection, and boy did we. There is this great book store here called Jenson Books. They buy used books from libraries, good will, schools, and basically anywhere and then sell them for ridiculously cheap prices. Not to mention they have a great deal for teachers, a box of books for ten dollars. Luckily Kel is a teacher so today we went and got two boxes of books for us to read and for Kel to put in her classroom library when she becomes a legitimate teacher. We will post numbers later when we sort and count them.
As you can see from the pictures there is no method to the madness so you have to dig to find the good books. If you go there you need to make sure you have lots of time like say. . .four hours or something like that. It was the best four hours we spent though. =)

Day 1 #59
Today’s thing was “every kid should have a pet.” So Kelli and I went to the local Wal-Mart and bought a beta fish. That is right. . . He is orange and his name is Ace. Where did the name Ace come from you ask? Well we were talking about what we wanted to name our children and our friend, Aimee, said she knew someone who named their child Ace. Kelli immediately pegged me as someone who would name my kid Ace. In truth I would, I am a bit of a jock, okay . . . so I am a jock, I played volleyball for Utah State, what do you want from me. Needless to say when naming our new fish, Ace only seemed natural.
Picking up Ace from the orphanage.
Ace in his new home.
Welcome Home Ace!
Hello!!
You are probably wondering what this blog is about, but first let us introduce ourselves. My name is Shantell and my roommate, Kelli and I are in our last semester of college at Utah State University. I am studying Psychology and Kelli is in Elementary Education. A couple of days ago we were at a thrift book store looking for children books for Kelli to put in her classroom library when she becomes an official teacher (she is doing her student teaching right now). That is when we came across the book 101 Things Every Kid Should Do Growing Up by Alecia R. Devantier. Well Kelli has been counting down the days of her 'childhood', meaning until graduation, and Kelli being the creative person that she is had a great idea. There are 101 days left until graduation and 101 things to do. One thing a day, over 101 days, starting today. Some of the things are easily done like having a lemonade stand, however some will force us to be a little more creative, like believe in things that can't be seen. So we decided to document our "Last Semester" here as a blog. Feel free to join us and enjoy the ride. . . because we will!!!!!
